How to Remove the Password from an Indian Bank Statement PDF

ConvertStatement Team·

Almost every Indian bank sends password-protected statement PDFs. The password is meant to prevent unauthorized access if the email is intercepted. Once you have the password, you can unlock the PDF for easier use.

Common bank PDF passwords

Most Indian banks use your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format. Some combine the first few letters of your name with your DOB. HDFC uses customer ID + DOB. ICICI uses DOB alone. Axis uses DOB or the last 4 digits of the mobile number. Check your bank's official help page if the standard format does not work.

Using Adobe Acrobat

Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat (the paid version). Enter the password when prompted. Go to File, then Properties, then Security. Change Security Method to "No Security." Save the file. The new file is now unprotected.

Using a browser

Open the PDF in Chrome or Edge. Enter the password when prompted. Press Ctrl+P to open the print dialog. Select "Save as PDF" as the destination. Click Save. The new file has no password. This is the quickest method and requires no extra software.

Security caution

Only remove passwords on files you own and that are stored on your own device. Never upload your bank statement to an unknown online tool to remove the password. You do not know what those sites do with your financial data after processing.
