Bank Statement for Visa Applications: A Complete Guide

ConvertStatement Team·

Every visa application asks for bank statements. Consulates use them to decide if you can support yourself abroad and if you have enough reason to return home.

How much balance do you need

There is no universal rule. For a 10-day Europe trip, most consultants suggest Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh in your account at the time of application. For longer trips or multiple-entry visas, aim higher. The key is that the balance looks consistent, not artificially inflated.

What consulates check

They look for regular income credits (salary or business deposits), a stable average balance, and no sudden large deposits just before application. A balance that jumps from Rs 20,000 to Rs 5 lakh the week before application raises flags.

How many months to include

Most embassies ask for 3 to 6 months of statements. US, UK, and Schengen visas typically want 6 months. Always include the full statement including the bank's letterhead and account holder details.

Getting a bank-certified statement

For visa purposes, get a statement printed on the bank's letterhead with a branch seal and officer signature. Most banks provide this at the counter for a fee of Rs 100 to Rs 500. Digital statements without a seal are often rejected.
